The landmark Hollywood sign is officially dedicated on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign, originally put up as a housing development advertisement, first read “Hollywoodland,” but during a 1949 renovation, the last four letters were dropped.
