Freshman Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, tore into a former Obama aide who mocked Rep. Devin Nunes for a tweet that tied socialism to a new law in California that bars restaurants from giving out single-use straws to customers unless they request one.
“At restaurant tonight waitress asks if we want straws. Says she has to ask now in fear of “THE STRAW POLICE”. Welcome to Socialism in California!” Nunes, R-Calif., tweeted Saturday evening.
The tweet generated a significant amount of mockery, including from Dan Pfeiffer, who was a senior White House adviser for former President Barack Obama. “Three time finalist for the dumbest member of Congress award,” he said Sunday morning.

Crenshaw swooped in to defend Nunes.
“You should be ashamed of the contempt you are showing for a fellow human being. You don’t even bother with a witty quip, just go straight to insults. You are demonstrating what is wrong with American politics,” Crenshaw said, adding, “And the comments here just reinforce my point. I can’t imagine any of you would say such terrible things to someone’s face.”
Crenshaw then shared what looked to be a hastily deleted response from Pfeiffer, which said, “When you support Donald Trump, you don’t get to be the arbiter of what is wrong with politics, you are what is wrong with politics.”
“And this is what it really comes down to, you truly despise those with different political beliefs. I wish that wasn’t the case. Wish you well,” Crenshaw said.

At about the same time, Pfeiffer sent another response to Crenshaw’s original clap-back.
“I would note (as politely as possible) that you support Donald Trump who holds whole groups of his fellow humans in contempt based on their race and religion. Perhaps, there’s some work to do in your own house before you appoint yourself the moral arbiter of Twitter,” he said.

Crenshaw, who has roughly 350,000 followers on Twitter, became a household name late last year after he was mocked on “Saturday Night Live” and later went on the show himself to accept an apology, was injured by a bomb in Afghanistan, which took his right eye. He served 10 years as a Navy SEAL.
