Wallace interrupts Trump then scolds him on following debate rules in a series of testy exchanges

Chris Wallace scolded President Trump during Tuesday’s debate in what was a series of testy exchanges for not following the rules, and he suggested the president take his seat at the moderator desk.

“You know, sir, if you wanna switch seats, we could do that,” Wallace said to Trump after the two interrupted each other as Trump tried to respond to a statement made previously by Joe Biden. Wallace instead wanted to move on to another subject.

“Mr. President, your campaign agreed both sides would get two-minute answers uninterrupted,” Wallace told Trump after another interruption. “Your side agreed to it. Why don’t you observe what your campaign agreed to as a ground rule, OK, sir?”

When Trump attempted to respond to Wallace, the moderator cut him off saying, “No, no. That was a rhetorical question.”

The exchange came after Wallace sparred with Trump and Biden several times during the debate, focusing his ire primarily at Trump as the two candidates interrupted each other.

“First of all, I guess I’m debating you, not him,” Trump said to Wallace at one point early in the debate. “That’s OK. I’m not surprised.”

At another point, Wallace attempted to gain control of the debate again, telling the candidates, “Gentlemen, I hate to raise my voice, but … why shouldn’t I be different than the two of you?” He then addressed Trump directly, asking him to limit the interruptions because “frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting.”
