Bouncing along

The question as to whether there would be any bounce for Barack Obama from the Democratic National Convention seems to have been answered. The daily tracking polls from both Gallup and Rassmussen Reports show Obama as the pick of more than 50 percent of respondents. John McCain is holding steady in the polls at 45 percent or less. This is Obama’s best showing in more than a month and just two of a series of polls that show Obama with a 6 to 8 point lead over McCain. If you look at what’s changed for Obama, it’s clear that he’s starting to seal the deal with Hillary Clinton’s former supporters, in some polls he’s doing a pull 10 points better among that group. Clinton and her husband’s remarks at the Democratic convention seem to have the desired effect.

The next question is whether McCain can put together a similar bounce with the shortened Republican Convention this week.
