President Obama ordered flags on all public buildings across the country flown at half-staff to honor the five police officers who died and the seven others who were wounded during Thursday night’s sniper attack at the end of a police brutality protest in Dallas.
“As a mark of respect for the victims of the attack on police officers perpetrated on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Dallas, Texas… I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House” and all public buildings and grounds, the president said in a proclamation Friday.
The American flag also will fly half staff at all U.S. military posts, naval stations and all naval vessels, embassies, consular offices and facilities abroad.
The Dallas shooting was the deadliest attack for police officers since 9/11. At least one of the suspects told police early Friday that he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers, after police shot and killed two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana over the previous two days.
