WATCH: Terrifying moment MLB pitcher hit in the head by line drive

Terrifying video captured the moment an MLB pitcher was hit in the head by a line drive on Friday night.

Atlanta Braves reliever Jackson Stephens was on the mound in the ninth inning when St Louis Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan came up to bat.

Donovan drilled a pitch straight back at the pitcher, and Stephens was unable to get out of the way before the ball cannoned into the side of his head.

Incredibly, Stephens managed to stay on his feet and was walked off the field by a Braves trainer. As he left the field, a huge welt could already be seen forming on his head.

“He’s aware and everything but he’s going to have to go to the hospital and get some tests,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said after his team’s 11-4 victory. “It’s always scary when you see somebody get hit in the head, the face. That’s probably the most sickening thing you can witness in a game.”
