HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — After eight days off, some 1,300 students from two Huntington Beach schools are returning to classrooms on other campuses after asbestos was found on theirs.
The Orange County Register reports that the students from Oak View and Hope View elementary schools will go to seven different campuses in four different districts Thursday while their schools remain closed.
Ocean View School District officials say they had hoped to have the students in their new classrooms by Wednesday, but logistical issues held them up.
The students will stay with the same teachers and classmates.
It’s not clear how long the temporary arrangement will last. Cleanup could take as long as two months.
Many district parents were angered when they weren’t immediately informed that asbestos was found on the campuses during the summer.
