Tiger Woods got emotional during an ovation from fans after he missed the cut at the 2022 British Open.
Woods, 46, finished after 36 holes at 9-over par following his two-day stint at St. Andrews.
The golfer, considered by many to be the greatest golfer of all time, had a difficult Thursday but managed to come back on Friday and finished +3 on the day.

After failing to make the cut, Woods made his way to No. 18 and received thunderous applause that brought him to tears.

“The greatest figures in the history of the game have made that walk,” an announcer said. “We just watched another one do just that.”
Woods spoke on the sentiment and affection he received following his play.
“The warmth and the ovation at 18,” he said. “It got to me.”

Whether or not the three-time Open champion will return to St. Andrews is unknown, Woods said.
“I don’t know if I’ll be physically able to play another British Open here at St. Andrews,” he said.

“I certainly feel like I’ll be able to play more British Opens, but I don’t know if I’ll be around when it comes back around here.”
