President Trump’s approval ratings are at the lowest point since he took office, and his disapproval ratings are rising higher and higher, according to a new poll.
A Morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday showed Trump’s approval rating fell to 46 percent in the days after the House Republican plan to repeal Obamacare was pulled from the floor. That’s a 4-point drop from the previous week.
In the same time frame, 50 percent of voters said they disapproved of the job Trump is doing, up 6 points from the previous week.
It’s the latest bad poll for Trump in a series of surveys taken in the days following the healthcare defeat. One poll, done by Gallup, showed his approval rating is at 36 percent, lower than any president in the last 24 years.
The Morning Consult/Politico poll has often been a favorable one for Trump, as 52 percent of voters said earlier this month they had a favorable view of the work he was doing.
According to the newest poll, Republicans still overwhelmingly support Trump, though their enthusiasm is waning somewhat. The survey showed 81 percent of GOP voters support the president, compared to 88 percent weeks earlier. Among voters who cast their ballot for Trump in November, support has dropped from 92 percent to 84 percent during March.
Trump might take heart from the fact that he’s still more popular among Republicans than some GOP congressional leaders.
Among Republican voters, 64 percent view Speaker Paul Ryan favorably and 40 percent have a favorable view of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The survey polled 1,991 registered voters between March 24-25 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
