Man with machete arrested after barricade

A man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly tried to assault his daughter-in-law and then barricaded himself inside a Silver Spring home with a machete.

Montgomery County police said 59-year-old Jose Felix Castillo tried to assault his 23-year-old daughter-in-law at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. The woman and her 6-month-old child escaped from the home about 15 minutes later.

Castillo barricaded himself inside the residence until a tactical team entered through an unlocked door at about 12:30 p.m. because police believed the man might be harming himself.

Castillo was charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of attempted first-degree assault.
