RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno is getting a financial boost in its bid to lure new jobs to the region.
Mayor Bob Cashell announced Wednesday that IBM is awarding the city a $400,000 grant to develop a system with the University of Nevada, Reno and the Desert Research Institute to attract technology firms.
The grant is part of IBM’s three-year, $50 million Smarter Cities program. It involves IBM sending teams of its experts to 100 cities around the globe by the end of 2013. Reno is one of 31 cities announced this week.
IBM’s experts from different business units and geographies will spend three weeks in Reno working closely with city leaders on ideas to make the city smarter and more effective.
Cashell says it makes Reno the “Smartest Little City in the World.”
