WASHINGTON (AP) — Organizers are seeking volunteers to help with the massive Smithsonian Folklife Festival beginning next week on the National Mall.
The festival runs June 27 through July 1 and again July 4 through July 8.
This year’s festival focuses on three themes. One is the 25th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The second program is built around 150th anniversary of the creation of public and land-grant universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. And the third theme looks at arts and creativity helps connect people living East of the Anacostia River in Washington.
The Smithsonian says volunteers who can serve as American Sign Language interpreters are especially needed, along with people who have experience handling the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
