U-Conn coach on Obama: ‘Going to miss him’

University of Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma took a swipe at the presidential field as his NCAA championship team visited the White House Tuesday.

“I’m going to miss the relationship; I’m going to miss coming down here,” said Auriemma, who was on his fourth such trip during President Obama’s tenure.

“But if you’ve been paying attention to what’s been going on in the media these last six or seven months, as time goes by, we’re probably going to miss him more than he misses us,” said Auriemma, who is coaching the nation’s women’s basketball team in this summer’s Olympics.

Obama thanked Auriemma and joked that the rocking chair Auriemma gave him as a gift better not be a symbol of what Auriemma thinks Obama will do post-presidency.

“I’m assuming it was meant with love but coach, I do want you to know that I am not going out to pasture,” Obama ribbed. “So don’t think that you got rid of me that easily.”
