Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to visit President Trump on Aug. 27, weeks after the East African leader met with former President Barack Obama in Nairobi.
The White House announced Monday the two leaders “will explore ways to bolster trade and investment between the two countries, while strengthening security cooperation.”
“President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to broaden the strategic partnership based on our shared democratic values and mutual interests,” the statement said.
During Obama’s presidency, Trump was instrumental in pushing conspiracy theories about Obama’s birth certificate. Trump repeatedly claimed Obama was born in Kenya, the birthplace of the former president’s father, not Hawaii.
Kenyatta is currently serving his second term as president. He is the son of Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta.
Obama met with him during a trip to Kenya in July to visit a sports and training facility opened by a charity founded by his half-sister, Auma Obama.
