Former FBI Director James Comey said Wednesday that he is concerned because he barely sees President Trump laugh or use humor in casual situations.
Citing former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama as examples, Comey said during a CNN town hall that humor and the ability to laugh at oneself are important qualities of a well-balanced leader, but not ones that Trump exhibits.
“I never saw President Trump laugh even in an almost-hour-and-a-half-long, private dinner and so I became a little concerned about this,” Comey said, while suggesting that the president might be insecure.
The former FBI director admitted that he did some digging on YouTube to find videos of Trump laughing, but only found one example where Trump let out a “mean” laugh at an off-color joke comparing Hillary Clinton to dog on the campaign trail.
Comey’s comments came during a town hall interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper as part of his cross-country book tour.
