Mystery gambler places $5M bet on Trump to win reelection

An unidentified gambler in England has placed a wager worth $5 million on President Trump winning reelection.

The wager, believed to be the largest on a political candidate in history, was made by a former banker through private bookmakers registered on the Caribbean island of Curacao. It could result in a $15 million payout, according to the New York Post.

It has been reported that the unknown gambler made the bet after speaking with “Trump camp insiders.”

In mid-October, $150 million of wagers were placed in European markets alone, with Biden receiving more bets to win by a 2-1 margin.

Heading into Election Day, the oddsmaking website OddsChecker viewed Biden as the favorite but reported that the gap between the two had “drastically narrowed” since Election Day eve.

“The 2020 election is following a very similar betting pattern to the one we witnessed back in 2016. The closer we got to Election Day, the more money came for Donald Trump,” Sam Eaton, the site’s head of marketing, said about the way the odds are currently trending.
