Obama dines with celebrity travel host Anthony Bourdain

President Barack Obama dined with CNN’s Anthony Bourdain during an official visit to Vietnam on Monday.

CNN announced in a press release on Monday that the dinner conversation will be featured in an upcoming September episode of the network’s travel series “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.”

The Wall Street Journal’s White House correspondent Carol Lee reported they ate at a restaurant called Bun cha Huong Lien in Hanoi, Vietnam. Bourdain tweeted he paid the $6 bill for the bun cha, a grilled pork and noodle dish, that he and the president shared.

CNN stated before the dinner meeting that the trained chef and travel show host hoped to discuss “the purpose of the president’s trip and his interest in the people, food and culture of Vietnam.”

President Obama is making his first trip to the country as part of a week-long tour of Asia. A White House press release states he will meet with many of the country’s leaders and give a speech on U.S.-Vietnamese relations.

Obama recently issued a warning against electing Donald Trump as president by saying the job is “not a reality show,” but conservatives have complained that Obama has made frequent stops for interviews with celebrities.
