Comedian Gilbert Gottfried laid to rest in ‘absolutely perfect’ funeral

Gilbert Gottfried was laid to rest on Thursday in a “star-studded event” that featured several celebrities paying tribute to their late friend.

The 67-year-old comedian who died on Tuesday was remembered for his more than 50 years in show business and some of his quirks, such as taking thousands of shampoo bottles from hotel bathrooms.

“The shiva tonight will be a star-studded event, and the funeral was just absolutely perfect,” stand-up comedian Jeff Ross, who delivered the eulogy, told People. “As I said at the funeral, Gilbert had been sick, he was tired, and he had perfect timing. He knew it was his time to get off the stage.”

Gottfried, who was known for his distinct voice and loud comedic style, starred in roles including Iago in Aladdin and his voice-over for the Aflac duck.

Several celebrities were in attendance Thursday, including Susie Essman, Paul Shaffer, and the late Bob Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, and their three daughters.

“Fifty years in show business, 50 years! He went on stage as a teenager, and he never stopped,” Ross said. “He was supposed to do a show last week. This man has been making people laugh for half a century. What a mitzvah. What a mission in life. What a purpose to have in this world.”
