Socially conservative former Rep. Aaron Schock, R- Ill., was reportedly photographed at a music festival making out with another man.
During his tenure in Congress, the 37-year-old Schock voted against the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” and voted in favor of adding a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. He received a zero rating from the Human Rights Campaign for his voting record.
Despite his socially conservative political career, Schock, who now lives in West Hollywood, was purportedly photographed with a group of gay men at California’s famed Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to Metro Weekly, an LGBT-focused publication.
Political activist James Duke Mason wrote a lengthy Facebook post about the photos, accusing Schock of hypocrisy over his anti-gay voting record.
“Normally I wouldn’t comment on something like this, but I am just infuriated by these images of former Republican (and anti-gay) Congressman Aaron Schock partying with a group of gay men at Coachella,” Mason wrote. “My intention isn’t to out him or target him personally, but simply to point out the hypocrisy.”
Schock resigned from Congress in 2015 after reports that he misused taxpayer money. He was indicted in 2017 on 24 federal charges, including wire fraud and mail fraud, although those were dropped by federal prosecutors last week.
Neither Schock nor his attorney responded to inquiries seeking comment.
The festival started Friday, April 12, and runs through Sunday.
