A Columbia man hanged himself with a sheet Wednesday while detained at the Howard County Detention Center.
Brandon Reed, 24, was found unresponsive in his cell around 7 p.m. Workers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Reed until paramedics arrived. Reed was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital.
It is unclear whether Reed needed closer observation. Howard County police spokeswoman Jennifer Reidy said inmates are checked every 30 minutes.
Police suspect no foul play, as he was alone in his cell.
Reed was being held on charges including armed robbery, reckless endangerment, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault. His bond was $70,000.
