Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign manager Jeff Weaver said he thinks Donald Trump was woefully unprepared for Monday’s presidential debate.
Weaver told MSNBC Hillary Clinton beat Trump, who he said appeared to have only thought through his message on trade.
“What is your take on her performance last night? The Trump campaign said she was too scripted. Was she?” asked MSNBC personality Hallie Jackson.
“Well I think she came prepared, certainly,” Weaver said, as Jackson interrupted him.
“Does ‘prepared’ mean ‘scripted,’ or is there a difference?” Jackson interjected with a leading question.
“No I think there is a difference,” Weaver answered. “Hillary Clinton always comes prepared. She knows her programs in-and-out, she knows your programs in-and-out.”
He continued, “And what I think we saw from Trump is: He really came prepared to talk for about half an hour about trade and after that was completely unprepared.”
Jackson noted several times that Clinton appeared to be “all smiles” on Tuesday and was talking to an audience of millennials on the campaign trail in North Carolina. But the Democratic nominee appeared to be speaking to a crowd that included people of all different ages, including two men who stood directly behind Clinton on camera with graying facial hair and many other middle-aged people.
Clinton and Trump are set to meet on the presidential debate stage for the second time next month in St. Louis.
