DeSantis administration slaps complaint on Miami bar over drag shows for children

A Miami bar has received a complaint from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation over its drag queen events.

Wynwood’s R House bar has 21 days from Tuesday to respond to and/or refute the DBPR’s claims that children have been present at its drag shows. It stands to lose its liquor license if it is found to have violated Florida laws and regulations by having children in its audience.

The Twitter account “Libs of TikTok” posted a video of one supposed event at R House that included a topless performer in a money-packed thong while walking hand in hand with a toddler. Since the video was shared on Twitter, the original TikTok account has deleted the video and changed its account name.

“Wholesome, innocent, beautiful family-friendly entertainment,” the video’s caption reads. An overlay of text on the original video from TikTok reads: “Children belong at drag shows!!!! children deserve to see fun and expression and freedom.”

In another reported instance, a video shared on social media showed a drag queen gyrating above the head of a young girl, who is seen shrinking away from the interaction.

R House still hosts a drag brunch that features a children’s menu for those under 12 years old. A $10 cover charge is necessary to attend its “fabulous show by Miami’s fiercest drag entertainers,” according to the menu.
