Who: Senator John Kerry, D-Mass. What: Argued in a Feb. 10 Politico op-ed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide wireless Internet to as many Americans as possible in order to encourage innovation
Why it’s dim: Even the Federal Communications Commission contradicts this in their own report: “Fueled primarily by private sector investment and innovation, the American broadband ecosystem has evolved rapidly. The number of Americans who have broadband at home has grown from 8 million in 2000 to nearly 200 million last year.”
Cure: Let private sector investment continue to fuel broadband development.
