Florida Rep. Brian Mast stopped to take questions from protesters after they surrounded him as he left the White House where President Trump delivered his acceptance speech Thursday night to close the Republican National Convention.
The congressman, who is an Army veteran who lost both of his legs while serving in Afghanistan, said he believed they singled him out because he couldn’t walk as fast in his prosthetics.
“They thought I would be an easy target because my prosthetics move slowly. They were wrong,” Mast tweeted.

Mast told the group of reporters and protesters that he believes the right to protest is a “beautiful thing.” He said that he was not afraid for his safety after being asked, adding, “Should I be?”
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was similarly swarmed on Thursday night while walking to his hotel with his wife. He told Fox News he believes he and his wife would have been “pummeled” if law enforcement had not stepped in to protect them.
