THE E-3 GAMING CONVENTION IS THE PINNACLE OF HYPE FOR THE ENTIRE GAMING INDUSTRY.
SO HOW’D THIS YEAR’S EVENT GO OVER?

THAT’S NOT TO SAY THE EVENT WAS A FAILURE. NOT AT ALL.
MICROSOFT UNVEILED SMARTGLASS TECHNOLOGY, WHICH ALLOWS FOR INTERACTION BETWEEN ITS XBOX 360 CONSOLE AND A TABLET OR SMARTPHONE.
AND NINTENDO REVEALED MORE ABOUT ITS WII U (we-you) CONSOLE, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS MANY HAD HOPED.

“Everybody knew that there weren’t going to be any new next-generation console announcements. But we definitely wanted to see a price point and a release date for the Wii U, that did not happen. I know that underwhelmed quite a few people. The SmartGlass stuff is amazing. But the idea that there’s already a second screen in the home and you’re going to use that with the Xbox is not something new. We all expected that to happen at some point in the future.”
SO AS THE INDUSTRY AWAITS THE RELEASE OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF CONSOLES, ITS COMING TO GRIPS WITH THE SHIFT THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTING THE INDUSTRY.

“I think the mobile sales are actually affecting the console sales. Although hopefully with the fact that mobile is bringing more gamers into the world, the consoles will eventually benefit from that.”
SO WHAT WAS ALL THE HYPE ABOUT THIS YEAR? TITLES. LOTS OF THEM., INCLUDING STANDOUT GAMES LIKE “X-COM,” “RESIDENT EVIL 6,” AND “WATCH DOGS.”

I think we’re probably seeing — as we experience with most of the end of console generations, we’re experiencing kind of a bit of console generation burnout with these games.” ‘Skyrim’ was awesome, ‘Assassin’s’ is great. Everything looks cool. But this usually happens at the end of every console cycle.”
GAME CONSOLES HAVE TRADITIONALLY BEEN REFRESHED EVERY FIVE TO TEN YEARS. THE XBOX 360 IS SEVEN YEARS OLD, THE PLAYSTATION 3 AND NINTENDO WII ARE SIX.
SO IN TERMS OF WHEN THE NEXT CONSOLE UPGRADE WILL LAND, IT’S NOW A WAIT AND SEE GAME.
