‘Poisonous moron’: Tucker Carlson blasts Jim Acosta for accusing Trump coronavirus speech of ‘xenophobia’

Tucker Carlson tore into CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta after he suggested that calling the coronavirus a foreign virus was xenophobic.

“The president referred to the coronavirus as a ‘foreign virus,'” Acosta said. “I think it’s going to come across to a lot of Americans as smacking of xenophobia.”

Carlson responded Thursday on his Fox News show by calling the CNN reporter a “poisonous moron.”

“Amazingly, though, it was just two months ago, and we keep track, that Acosta was sending tweets himself about the quote ‘Wuhan coronavirus,'” Carlson said. “He hadn’t yet received his orders from Jeff Zucker, who receives his from China, so that was OK. But now, the word is out: must protect China at all costs.”

After Acosta’s original comment, many critics online pointed out many of the times he and others on CNN had called COVID-19 the “Wuhan coronavirus” before settling on the “coronavirus.”

The virus has been referred to as the “Wuhan coronavirus” because it originated in a live animal market in Wuhan, China, before spreading globally. Some officials have questioned the narrative and the potential for the virus to be from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is the country’s most advanced virus research laboratory.
