Montgomery activists sue Board of Elections

An advocate for imposing term limits on Montgomery County elected officials and a group opposed to the suburb’s new ambulance fee filed separate lawsuits against the county’s Board of Elections Tuesday, in hopes of landing their respective referendums on the ballot in November. Election officials last week tossed a term-limit initiative authored by Robin Ficker, a conservative activist and County Council candidate, and another by the county’s firefighters to strike down charges for ambulance rides. The board said not enough signatures on the petitions met new fraud-prevention standards. County residents must sign their names exactly as they appear in the voter registration database, and any signatures with invalid letters are ineligible. — Brian Hughes
