Alleged DNC hacker starts a blog, posts stolen files

The person claiming credit for the hack of the Democratic National Committee has started a blog to brag about it.

“Worldwide known cyber security company CrowdStrike announced that the [DNC] servers had been hacked by ‘sophisticated’ hacker groups,” the self-proclaimed hacker, “Guccifer 2.0,” says on the new WordPress blog. “I’m very pleased the company appreciated my skills so highly … But in fact, it was easy, very easy.”

“Guccifer may have been the first one who penetrated Hillary Clinton’s and other Democrats’ mail servers. But he certainly wasn’t the last. No wonder any other hacker could easily get access to the DNC’s servers,” the author said. “Shame on CrowdStrike: Do you think I’ve been in the DNC’s networks for almost a year and saved only 2 documents? Do you really believe it?”

As evidence, the hacker provided copies of an opposition research file the DNC had compiled on Donald Trump, as well as screenshots of a donor list. “DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said no financial documents were compromised. Nonsense! Just look through the Democratic Party lists of donors!” the hacker wrote.

Other documents the hacker posted include files on other GOP presidential candidates, a list of prospective donors, and a potentially confidential document from Clinton’s term as secretary of state marked “secret,” though it was not the same official stamp that the federal government places on documents. The author said he also gave “thousands of files and mails” to Wikileaks and added, “They will publish them soon.”

It was revealed on Tuesday that the DNC’s servers had been infiltrated by hackers for more than a year. Officials at CrowdStrike attributed the activity to two groups known as “Cozy Bear” and “Fancy Bear,” which are both linked to the Russian government.

In a statement on Wednesday, Trump said he believed the DNC hacked itself. “We believe it was the DNC that did the ‘hacking’ as a way to distract from the many issues facing their deeply flawed candidate and failed party leader,” Trump said. “Too bad the DNC doesn’t hack Hillary Clinton’s 33,000 missing emails.”
