Former Virginia Finance Secretary to be sentenced for fraud

Former Virginia Secretary of Finance John Forbes II is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in a $4 million fraud scheme, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Forbes stole millions intended to be used to help Virginia’s tobacco communities, according to court documents. He served as finance secretary from 2001-2002 under former Gov. Jim Gilmore.

Forbes faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A plea calls for him to pay $4 million in restitution to the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.
