D.C.’s State Board of Education will revise its definition of a “highly qualified teacher” to ensure that strict teaching prerequisites translate to improved student performance, officials said.
The new regulations, which will be vetted this week and finalized after considering public input, come as D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee has pledged to get rid of teachers not designated as highly qualified.
