RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Voting is under way for Virginia’s top 10 endangered artifacts.
The Virginia Association of Museums sponsors the voting, which is intended to draw attention to the state’s history, culture and the role artifacts play in telling those stories.
The campaign encourages collecting institutions to nominate items that deserve recognition and tell a significant story. Museums, archives and libraries will offer their nominations through June 15. Then the public can vote online from Aug. 1 through the end of the month.
In September, the top 10 list will be announced.
Last year the list included the Mariners’ Museum’s revolving gun turret from the USS Monitor and the Library of Virginia’s collection of Thomas Jefferson’s executive papers as governor.
