Obama set to join campaign trail in the fall to back Democrat candidates: Report

Former President Barack Obama will be joining the campaign trail this fall to support Democrats ahead of the midterm elections, with the assistance of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, according to a new report.

Although it’s uncertain when Obama will begin campaigning for House, Senate, and gubernatorial candidates, those familiar with the Obama team’s agenda claim he will start campaigning in September, CNBC reports.

Obama’s team is coordinating with two groups that are currently led by former members of the Obama administration — Organizing for Action, headed by former Director of the Office of Public Engagement Jon Cason, and the National Democratic Redistricting Committee headed by former Attorney General Eric Holder.

“The president and his team are in engaged in our work at the NDRC. They are working with our chair Eric Holder and our chair is working with them,” a National Democratic Redistricting Committee spokesperson said, per CNBC.

Organization for Action did not provide CNBC with comment.

Former presidents such as Bill Clinton have also participated in campaigns after their presidencies.
