A Pasadena man was hailed as a hero Monday for his role in foiling a robbery attempt at a Glen Burnie jewelry store.

And all Kristopher Kraft, 26, was doing that afternoon was checking his mail.

“I never thought this would happen, but I know if I were in a situation like that I?d want someone to stop and help me,” said Kraft, the owner of Krafty Services, a private court document serving business.

Del. Don Dwyer, R-Anne Arundel, presented Kraft with a citation on behalf of Gov. Robert Ehrlich in recognition of Kraft?s actions that put him in a life-threatening situation “without regard for his own safety.”

Dwyer also presented him with a legislative citation recognizing him as one of “Anne Arundel County?s brave citizens.”

Kraft had collected his mail from the Glen Burnie post office Oct. 17 when he heard a woman screaming and saw shattered glass in front of the Gem Boutique jewelry store on Ritchie Highway, according to Anne Arundel County police.

He saw a white female brandishing a butcher knife in the face of the store?s owner, Mimi Arbabi.

The woman, later identified as Amanda Marie Green, of Isted Road in Glen Burnie, allegedly threw a chair through the store?s window after Arbabi refused to give her money from the cash register.

Arbabi released the lock on the door to let in Kraft.

“He was able to grab her and before I knew it, she was on the floor,” Arbabi said Monday.

Kraft used his years of dabbling in martial arts and brief experience as a security guard to subdue Green until police arrived.

Green is beingheld without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
