D.C. Mayor Vince Gray announced Wednesday that acting interim director of the District Department of Transportation Terry Bellamy will be put forward to the D.C. Council as the nominee for the agency’s permanent director.
City Administrator Allen Lew said Bellamy was selected after a national search which yielded applicants from across the country.
Bellamy said under his leadership, the department will continue on the course set by Gabe Klein, who ran the agency under Mayor Adrian Fenty.
“I’ll run the vision set out before us,” Bellamy said.
It was under Klein that DDOT focused on creating access to city roads for bikes and developing street cars in areas considered under served by public transportation.
