Ted Lieu questions whether Trump has actual plan for Syria: ‘You’re the President now. Remember?’

Rep. Ted Lieu pressed President Trump to come up with a cohesive plan to react to the suspected deadly chemical attack in Syria.

“Dear @realDonaldTrump: Remember when you launched cruise missiles at a largely empty field in Syria? That unconstitutional act didn’t do very much,” the California Democrat tweeted Sunday. “Remember when you said last week that US is leaving Syria in six months? So what is your plan? You’re the President now. Remember?”

According to Syrian opposition activists, a poison gas attack in Douma, which is held by rebels and near the capital of Damascus, killed at least 40 people. Syria and Russia denied the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad regime was behind any chemical weapons attack.

Trump warned there will be a “big price to pay ” earlier Sunday on Twitter.

“Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria. Area of atrocity is in lockdown and encircled by Syrian Army, making it completely inaccessible to outside world. President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad. Big price to pay,” Trump said in a pair of tweets. “Open area immediately for medical help and verification. Another humanitarian disaster for no reason whatsoever. SICK!”

The U.S. State Department said in a statement that it had seen “multiple, very disturbing reports this afternoon regarding another possible CW (chemical weapons) attack near a hospital in Douma, Syria.”

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the “Assad regime and its backers must be held accountable and any further attacks prevented immediately” and issued a direct warning to Russia, the Syrian government’s staunchest backer.

Roughly a year ago, in April 2017, that a sarin gas attack tied to the Assad regime struck the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhoun, killing more than 80 people. The U.S. retaliated by launching 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian airbase.
