Police charge 2 boys in Chantilly pellet gun shooting

Fairfax County police charged two 16-year-old boys in connection with a pellet gun shooting that injured two students at a Chantilly middle school two weeks ago.

One teen has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding and one count of shooting into an occupied building. The second boy has been charged with one count of malicious wounding and shooting into an occupied building. All the charges are felonies, and the boys face 5 to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $100,000 if convicted on the malicious wounding charges.

Fairfax County police responded to reports of a pellet gun shooting at 10 a.m. on June 15, the last day of school at Rocky Run Middle School. The incident occurred outside the school, and two students, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police initially apprehended four teenagers thought to be involved, but charged just the two boys following a week-long investigation.

Both were set to appear at a juvenile court hearing Monday.
