The National Council of Instructional Administrators has awarded Howard Community College?s Step UP program the 2007 Exemplary Initiative award for student retention and success.
Step UP is a mentorship program that pairs students with a faculty member, also known as a coach.
Coaches and students meet weekly and the coach offers support, encouragement and guidance. The program formed in 2005 and includes more than 100 trained coaches on campus that serve 100 students each semester.
NCIA is a professional organization affiliated with the American
Association of Community Colleges.
Winning institutions will be recognized April 5 at the NCIA Academy for Instructional Leaders in Philadelphia.
