Hosts on The View got into an ideological shouting match Wednesday about President Joe Biden’s unsuccessful efforts to pass a budget via the Build Back Better bill.
Guest host Tara Setmayer appeared for her second time and got the brunt of the shouting as the lone conservative. Setmayer is notably anti-Donald Trump, calling herself a “principled conservative” instead.
“What Biden said was, ‘I can get [Sen. Joe] Manchin’s vote,'” host Sunny Hostin said, lamenting that the West Virginia senator ultimately reneged. “What Build Back Better, that framework included things like childcare, universal preschool, paid family and medical leave.”

“They couldn’t pay for [it],” Setmayer interjected.
“They can pay for it,” Hostin said.
“They cannot,” Setmayer repeated. “That’s why it didn’t get passed.”
“This country pays for wars. This country gives tax breaks to the rich,” said Hostin, raising her voice over Setmayer. “This country has money for everything except for poor people.”
“It sounds great in a sound bite, but I work in Congress, and that’s not how it works,” Setmayer shouted simultaneously. “Trust me.”
Co-host Joy Behar also spoke over Setmayer earlier in the segment, interrupting Setmayer when she called Build Back Better “untenable” given the “$6 trillion price tag.”
“The alternative is, the Republicans come back into power, and you have the extremists that want to, you know, penalize teachers for talking about gays,” Setmayer added.
“Kill the environment,” Behar interrupted. “Roll back Roe v. Wade.”

The View has yet to replace conservative commentator Meghan McCain since she left last summer. Setmayer is one of several conservative voices that have guest-hosted.
