Biden retests positive for COVID-19 in ‘rebound’ infection

President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again days after he emerged from isolation once the White House confirmed that he tested negative.

Biden has no symptoms and continues to feel “quite well,” White House physician Kevin O’Connor wrote in a note Saturday.

“After testing negative on Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, Thursday morning, and Friday morning, the president tested positive late Saturday morning by antigen testing,” he said. “This in fact represents ‘rebound’ positivity.”

Biden will re-initiate strict isolation procedures, O’Connor added.

“Hey folks, Joe Biden here. Tested positive this morning. Going to be working from home for the next couple days,” said Biden, sitting next to his dog, Commander, in a video posted to Twitter. “And I’m feeling fine, everything’s good. But Commander and I got a little work to do.”

The president also sent a pizza delivery to veterans protesting outside Capitol Hill Saturday according to Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough, who personally delivered the boxes. Veterans plan to camp outside until the Senate passes the PACT Act, legislation that would provide more funding for veterans affected by burn pits.

“I planned an unscheduled trip to Capitol Hill this afternoon to meet the families fighting to pass burn pits legislation,” Biden tweeted. “A positive COVID test got in the way, but I want to thank [McDonough] for bringing pizza in my place and connecting me with the families via FaceTime.”

Biden delivered a triumphant speech Wednesday after initially testing negative twice for COVID-19.

The White House had hoped to get Biden, 79, back out on the road quickly after he had been forced to cancel travel to Pennsylvania and Florida following his diagnosis.

Biden worked throughout his isolation period, appearing unmasked on the Truman Balcony in a video filmed the same day as his positive test. Subsequent tweets and virtual appearances were intended to show the president working in his office.
