WHO: Nevada Department of Transportation
WHAT: Government contractors are set to begin construction on a 162-foot-long wildlife overpass that will help animals cross U.S. Highway 93 in the northeast corner of the state. The overpass, funded by the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will cost taxpayers nearly $2 million.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Sixteen percent of Nevada’s bridges–the ones that carry pedestrians and traffic–are considered functionally obsolete, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers.
WHERE TO VENT: Contact Nevada DOT spokeswoman Meg Mincolla at 775-888-7172.
