Two students from Maryland were among 32 selected as Rhodes Scholars for 2007.
Casey N. Cep, of Cordova, is a senior at Harvard University; Sean Genis, of Sharon, Pa., is a senior at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, according to the Rhodes Scholars Web site.
The scholars, who were chosen from 896 applicants endorsed by 340 colleges and universities, will enter Oxford University in England next October.
The scholarships provide two or three years of study, with the total value averaging about $45,000 per year.
Cep, who is majoring in English and American literature and language, is completing a novel for her senior thesis about her native Maryland Eastern Shore in Talbot County.
She plans to pursue theology at Oxford, while Genis intends to study philosophy, politics and economics.
A Truman Scholar, Genis is researching techniques for the acoustic detection of landmines.
He is currently majoring in physics and minoring in Spanish.
