Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore is calling on the Democrats to “declare a national emergency” and rebel against everything President Trump tries to do or enact.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, featuring the visage of the villainous HAL 9000 sentient computer from “2001: A Space Odyssey,” Moore said the Trump administration needs to be subject to a full stop because it is under investigation for espionage. FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers earlier this week that his agency investigating potential ties between Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia.
“The Democratic Party needs to declare a national emergency. For the first time in our history, the president of the United States and his staff are under investigation for espionage,” Moore said. “This announcement, by the head of the Trump-friendly FBI, is a shock to our democracy.”
Moore urged Democratic leadership in the House and Senate to “bring a halt to all business being done in the name of this potential felony suspect, Donald J. Trump.”
“No bill he supports, no Supreme Court nominee he has named, can be decided while he is under a criminal investigation,” Moore said. “His presidency has no legitimacy until the FBI – and an independent investigative committee — discovers the truth. Fellow citizens, demand the Democrats cease all business.”
Moore also shared a similar quote to that once uttered by President Richard Nixon, who resigned in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal.
“The American people have a right to know if their President is a crook,” Moore said, tagging Nixon.
Trump has used the Nixon metaphor lately too. During a Twitter rant earlier this month, Trump compared his predecessor — after accusing him of wiretapping Trump Tower — to “Nixon/Watergate.”
