Clothing company recreates Melania Trump’s jacket, donates proceeds to migrant children

A Portland, Ore., clothing company created its own jacket in response to first lady Melania Trump’s “I really don’t care, do u?” jacket she wore to visit immigrant children in Texas detention centers, and said it would donate all proceeds from its sale to migrant children.

The company, Wildfang, created a bomber jacket that reads, ‘I really care, don’t u?’. The description on the company’s site claims to send all proceeds from the jacket to nonprofit organization, Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services.

“***100% OF PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO RAICES.*** Hey Melania. WE REALLY DO CARE! That’s why we made this jacket. To say we stand with immigrants. To say WE CARE. By Wildfang. Jacket will ship in 3 weeks. But your dollars will go to RAICES asap,” the site states.

The jacket controversy comes after the first lady boarded a plane to visit immigrant children in a Texas detention center, donning a jacket that said “I really don’t care, do u?” Many in the media condemned the message, citing the recent uproar over her husband’s zero tolerance approach to immigration that resulted family separation at the southwest border.

Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement Thursday, that the media should focus on the first lady’s actions to help immigrant children, and not hidden messages behind her jacket. President Trump said the message behind the jacket was meant to be a jab at the media.
