Rapper Young Dolph dies in Memphis shooting at age 36

Rapper Young Dolph died Wednesday in Memphis, Tennessee, after he was shot while purchasing cookies at a bakery, law enforcement officials confirmed to Memphis media.

Maurice Hill, the owner of Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, where the shooting took place, said his employees reported Dolph being in the shop when someone drove up and shot him at approximately 1 p.m., according to local news outlet FOX13. Dolph’s Lamborghini was reportedly in the parking lot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are on the scene of a shooting at 2370 Airways. One male victim was located and was pronounced dead. No suspect info is available at this time,” Memphis Police said on Twitter.

Wednesday was not the first time Dolph had been shot. He was also shot in Hollywood, California, in 2017, according to TMZ, being hit three times. Prior to that, his car was also allegedly shot at with over a hundred bullets while he was in Charlotte, North Carolina, in Feb. 2017, according to the Guardian.

The rapper was first brought into the spotlight with the release of his debut album Memphis King in 2016, which peaked at No. 49 on the Billboard 200 chart. His album Dum and Dummer with fellow rapper Key Glock peaked at No. 8. He has also worked with Megan Thee Stallion and rapper Gucci Mane.

“I am sooo sick rn I am in disbelief! Praying for his family and friends! Rest In Peace to my friend, a true legend dolph,” Megan Thee Stallion tweeted.

Dolph, 36, was known for handing out turkeys around Memphis for Thanksgiving through the Memphis Athletics Ministries charity. He was already scheduled to hand out turkeys on Friday from 2-5 p.m., according to FOX13. He is survived by a son and daughter.
