Easter egg Hunter: President’s son makes appearance at White House event

Hunter Biden, the president’s son whose foreign business dealings are under federal investigation, appeared at the White House on Monday for the annual Easter Egg Roll.

President Joe Biden named his sixth grandchild in his remarks at the event. The child is Hunter Biden’s son.

“It means — it means so much to see and hear the children and all the families show up to be here today,” the elder Biden said. “The joy, the laughter, and the occasional — at least with my young grandson, who’s only 2 — the occasional, ‘There’s the Easter Bunny.’”

Hunter Biden’s laptop became an issue in the 2020 presidential campaign, as it was believed to contain emails documenting controversial aspects of his personal and professional life. Democrats dismissed it as Russian disinformation and social media platforms prevented reporting on the laptop from being widely shared, but major news outlets have since confirmed that at least some of its contents are authentic.

In addition to the federal investigation, Republican lawmakers are also probing Biden’s activities, with California Rep. Darrell Issa saying over the weekend that they have the laptop.

Biden is accused of leveraging his father’s influence to conduct lucrative business deals with sometimes-hostile foreign governments. The president may also be implicated as the “big guy” referenced in one of Hunter’s emails about a deal with China, though this has not been confirmed.

Former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment was over delaying military aid to Ukraine in an attempt to get information about Hunter Biden’s business dealings in the country released. Trump was acquitted by the Senate.

The president has passionately defended his son. “Nothing was unethical,” Biden said of his son’s role on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. “My son has no made money from China.”

The White House Easter Egg Roll was resumed after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
