Jury pool questioning focuses on child victim, insanity defense

The defense attorney for the woman accused of tossing her 2-year-old granddaughter to her death at the Tysons Corner Center questioned prospective jurors about whether they could be impartial in a case with a child victim and if they could accept an insanity defense.

Jury selection is taking place Monday in the trial of Carmela Dela Rosa, 50, who is charged with murder in the Nov. 29, 2010, death of Angelyn Ogdoc.

Dela Rosa’s attorney says she was legally insane at the time of the incident. Dela Rosa is entering a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Twelve jurors and two alternates will be chosen to decide her fate.

Earlier Monday, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney questioned prospective jurors about their interactions with psychologists and psychiatrists, and their views about mental health professionals.
