Obama mocks Trump over reported Twitter block

President Barack Obama mocked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over reports that his campaign had blocked him from having access to Twitter. Obama said that a person who could not be trusted with a Twitter account could not be trusted with the nation’s nuclear codes.

“In the last few days they have had so little faith in his self-control that they took away his Twitter account,” Obama said to laughter from the crowd during a rally Sunday for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Kissimmee, Fla.

He added: “If someone tweets at 2 a.m. because ‘Saturday Night Live’ made fun of you, you cannot handle the nuclear codes.”

A report in the New York Times Sunday claimed that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s staff is keeping him from using his official Twitter account in an effort to prevent any further controversies during the campaign’s final days.

“Aides to Mr. Trump have finally wrested away the Twitter account that he used to colorfully — and often counterproductively — savage his rivals,” the report said, citing anonymous interviews with “dozens of aides, operatives, supporters and advisers.”

Twitter has been one of Trump’s favorite means of communication throughout the campaign, giving the candidate direct and instanteous access to his fans and other curious onlookers.

It has also been a source of some of his most controversial moments, such as his open warfare with others in the GOP leadership last month when many distanced themselves from the candidate following the surfacing of a video in which Trump made lewd comments about women.
