Olympian Aly Raisman unsure about a future in politics: ‘I don’t know enough at all right now’

Olympic gold medalist and survivor of sexual abuse Aly Raisman said she doesn’t “know enough at all right now” to consider running for any type of political office in the near future.

When asked by Entertainment Tonight if she would consider getting involved with politics, the 23-year-old gymnast said she was “honored” that people continuously asked her about it, but is unsure of what the future holds in a story posted Thursday.

“I don’t know,” Raisman said. “I’m very humbled by it and I really appreciate all this support.”

“Never say never,” her interview companion Vita Sirokina said.

Raisman recently appeared in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition where she posed naked with empowering messages written on her body. “Women do not have to be modest to be respected,” one message said.

Raisman was among the 150-plus women molested by former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The gold medalist faced him in court where she read her testimony of events and the effect it had on her.

Since then, she has become a voice in the call to end sexual assault and misconduct.
