President Obama suggested Friday that people are being paid to interrupt Hillary Clinton campaign events to accuse America’s 42nd president of being a sexual predator.
“I notice this has been happening everywhere,” the president said during a campaign stop in Cleveland.
Obama’s address was interrupted Friday morning by a demonstrator chanting, “Bill Clinton is a rapist!”
He continued, mocking the demonstrator for spending more protesting Clinton than supporting GOP nominee Donald Trump.
“[G]o knock on some doors for your guy!” the president said. “That’s a better way for you to spend your time, unless you’re just being paid to be here, in which case, hey, you know, everybody’s got to make a living.”
“I keep on telling folks, you’ve got to if you feel confident about your candidate, go to his rally. I feel confident about my candidate. That’s why I’m at this rally,” he said.
Friday’s protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations aimed at keeping Bill Clinton’s many sex scandals in the spotlight.
A man wearing a shirt featuring Bill Clinton’s face and the word “RAPE” protested the Democratic nominee Monday at a rally in Detroit. Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., was heckled at a campaign rally in Las Vegas, Nev., last week by a protester shouting, “Bill Clinton is rapist!” Bill Clinton was heckled this week by a male rape protester in Fort Meyers, Fla., and he was also heckled last week by a woman in Canton, Ohio.
Hillary Clinton’s second run at the White House has been dogged by questions about her husband’s sex scandals from when he was president and governor of Arkansas.
GOP nominee Donald Trump has sought to make the sex scandals a major story in the 2016 presidential election.
Trump held a press conference with four women, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick and Kathy Shelton, who announced their support for the GOP nominee and recounted their charges against the Clintons. The former president has admitted in the past to engaging in extramarital affairs with multiple women, including former White House intern Monica Lewinsky and former model Gennifer Flowers. He has also been accused of sexually assaulting more than one woman, including Broaddrick and Jones.
Trump supporters, including talk radio host Alex Jones and political operative Roger Stone, have been keen to make the Clinton sex scandals a key focus of the 2016 race. To that end, Jones’ team is offering $1,000 to anyone who can get the Bill Clinton “RAPE” t-shirt on national TV for “at least five seconds.”
Jones’ conspiracy theory website, Infowars.com, sells the “RAPE” shirts. The talk radio host is also offering $5,000 to anyone who can get the “RAPE” t-shirt on national television while also yelling “Bill Clinton is a rapist!”
The rape contest has an operating budget of $100,000.
