Disney hopes to use some of its magic to try and make things right with its employees who are frustrated by its handling of education legislation recently enacted in Florida.
The Walt Disney Company said Monday that it formed a task force on gay and transgender issues to enlist the help of experts and develop a concrete plan so the company can be “a force for good” for those communities. Disney also said Chapek and his senior leaders would conduct a global listening tour, meeting with the company’s employees amid its shaky handling of legislation in Florida that would restrict teachers from discussing sexuality with young students, according to Reuters.
“We know the moment requires urgency, and words are not enough,” Chapek told Disney employees at a virtual town hall. “So we are taking some actions right now.”

About 60 employees gathered at a park outside of Los Angeles to protest Disney’s response to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act on Tuesday as part of the “Disney Do Better Walkout” campaign.
Disney faced criticism on March 7 after Chapek defended the company’s public silence on the Florida bill. Chapek told shareholders two days later Disney had opposed the bill “from the outset” and announced the company would donate $5 million to organizations that advocate gay and transgender rights. The company also halted Florida political donations on March 11.

Some employees have asked Disney in an open letter to stay politically neutral, saying the company’s politicization is “causing many of us to feel our days with TWDC might be numbered,” according to a letter published Monday by the American Conservative.
The company has not responded to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
